July 28, 2017
COLUMBIA, S.C. – Nine University of South Carolina track & field student-athletes were honored Friday as members of the 2017 USTFCCCA All-Academic Team. Aliyah Abrams, Maya Evans, Nakita Gray, Kara Lyles and Alycia Springs represent the Gamecocks on the All-Academic women’s squad, while Ryan Bermudez, Markus Leemet, Ncincilili Titi and Armand Woodley were honored on the men’s team.
Friday marked the second consecutive day that Curtis Frye and the Gamecocks were honored for their outstanding performance in the classroom last season. Both the men’s and women’s programs were selected as USTFCCCA All-Academic Teams on Thursday. Carolina was one of just three SEC programs to have both the men’s and women’s squads honored by the USTFCCCA, and it’s the ninth straight season that both sides have garnered the distinction.
The Gamecock women’s team posted a 3.424 GPA this past season, while the men finished with a 3.158 GPA.
To qualify individually for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, a student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top-96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top-48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org; for the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
