Sept. 21, 2017
BIG 5 CHALLENGE
Fort Worth, Texas • September 22-24
COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina women’s tennis travels to Fort Worth, Texas, this weekend for its second fall tournament of the year as the Gamecocks are set to compete in the Big 5 Challenge at Texas Christian University Sept. 22 ââ’¬” 24.
Coming off a weekend in which Carolina hosted the South Carolina Fall Invitational and won seven of nine doubles contests and 16 of 18 singles matches, the squad will look to build upon earned momentum in the first road competition of the year.
Paige Cline shined in the team’s opening tournament last weekend, going 2-1 in doubles with partner Hadley Berg, and 2-1 in singles on her way to being named the tournament runner-up. Berg showed no signs of rust either after the long offseason, posting a perfect 3-0 record in singles.
Carolina’s three freshmen trio of Nikolina Jovic, Meagan Davies and Kennedy Wicker couldn’t have asked for a much better start to their career, as the group posted a perfect 9-0 record in singles over the weekend.
South Carolina is scheduled for two matches on Friday and one on Saturday, with Sunday’s schedule to be determined from those results.
