Oct. 17, 2017
COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina women’s golf moved inside the top-10 in the latest Golfweek rankings, the publication announced this week. The Gamecocks, who were listed at No. 14 in the previous poll, climbed to No. 7 following a strong showing at the Tar Heel Invitational this past weekend.
Carolina turned in a record-setting performance at the UNC Finley Golf Course en route to third-place honors. The Gamecocks carded a final-round 281 (-7) Sunday to post the lowest 54-hole mark (846, -18) in school history.
Senior Ainhoa Olarra, one of three Carolina golfers to finish under-par at the tournament, grabbed runner-up honors after totaling the program’s second-best three-round individual mark (205, -11). Gamecock sophomore Lois Kaye Go tied for 11th at 6-under 210, while junior Marion Veysseyre placed in a tie for 23rd with a 54-hole total of 214 (-2). Go has finished at par or better in each of Carolina’s three events this season.
Arkansas and Alabama occupy the top-two spots of the poll, while UCLA, Duke and Arizona State round out the top-five. The Gamecocks bested the Razorbacks by one spot at the Tar Heel Invitational.
Carolina closes outs its fall slate at the Landfall Tradition, set for Oct. 27-29 at the Country Club of Landfall in Wilmington, N.C. The Gamecocks won the 54-hole event last year after carding a final-round 280 (-8).
