Final United Soccer Coaches Poll
COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina women’s soccer capped off its historic season with a No. 4 ranking in the final United Soccer Coaches Poll of 2017. The spot marks the program’s best finish in the poll.
Carolina, which spent 10 of the poll’s 12 regular-season installments listed in the top-five, was ranked No. 3 for two-straight months this fall. This year marks the fourth time the Gamecocks ended the season in the top-10 of the poll and the seventh time they concluded the fall ranked in the top-25.
The SEC boasted four schools in Tuesday’s final poll, with No. 6 Florida, No. 12 Texas A&M and No. 25 Tennessee joining Carolina.
The Gamecocks, who finished 2017 with a mark of 19-3-1, reached the Women’s College Cup for the first time in program history this season. Carolina fell to eventual national champions Stanford 2-0 in the NCAA Semifinals this past Friday at Orlando City Stadium in Orlando, Fla.
For the second-straight season, the Gamecocks went unbeaten (9-0-1) in league play en route to the school’s second-consecutive SEC Regular-Season Title. Carolina set a program single-season record with six wins over ranked opponents and posted an unbeaten record (11-0-1) at Stone Stadium.
The Gamecocks earned its second-straight NCAA Tournament No. 1 seed and notched victories over Alabama State (Nov. 10), Wisconsin (Nov. 17), Santa Clara (Nov. 19) and No. 16 Florida (Nov. 24) on their way to the College Cup.
