Eagleton Named NCEA Standout of the Month

Dec. 20, 2017

NCEA Standout of the Month Kate Eagleton

WACO, Texas — University of South Carolina junior Kate Eagleton was named NCEA Standout Athlete of the Month for November, the organization announced Wednesday. Eagleton is the first Gamecock to be honored with the award.

A Miami, Fla., native, Eagleton has performed over 100 hours of community service this semester, volunteering her time through a number of organizations. Primarily, Eagleton fosters pets through Pawmetto Lifeline, helping to ensure that five dogs and one cat had a safe home while waiting to be adopted.

Eagleton also volunteered through a number of team initiatives during the fall season. She coordinated the team’s Christmas stuffed animal drive, benefitting underprivileged children, and she hosted young equestrian fans at One Wood Farm during the squad’s Curing Kids Cancer event.

A visual communications major with a 4.0 grade point average, Eagleton has put her talents to good use in ways that have benefitted the equestrian program and the Gamecock athletics department as a whole. She’s designed a number of the team’s meet-specific t-shirts and also created the graphics on the AD honor roll shirts worn by student-athletes this season. A number of Eagleton’s graphic projects have also been used by the Student Government Association.

Despite a busy schedule that includes many charitable activities, Eagleton still found time to help a member of the Carolina family during their time of distress this semester. Volan, one of the team’s primarily equitation over fences horses, was sidelined midway through the semester with an injured stifle. Eagleton took extra time before and after practice to help with Volan’s rehabilitation program. Because of Eagleton’s diligence, Volan is healthy and will be back in the lineup this spring.

UP NEXT FOR THE GAMECOCKS

Eagleton and the Gamecocks host Converse in an exhibition meet on Saturday, Jan. 27 at 10 a.m. ET. The regular season resumes Saturday, Feb. 3, when Carolina travels to SMU.
