No. 8 Women’s Golf at Darius Rucker Intercollegiate

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — No. 8 South Carolina women’s golf placed ninth at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate after posting a final-round 297 (+13) Sunday at Long Cove Club. The host Gamecocks finished the weekend with a three-round score of 899 (+47).

Carolina junior Marion Veysseyre (T22, +9) fired a 4-over 75 on day three to garner a top-25 showing at the 54-hole event. She bounced back from four early bogeys and shot par or better on 13 of her final 14 holes. The Lachapelle-Auzac, France, native notched her lone birdie of the day on the par-5 15th.

Gaby Amos (+12) wrapped up a productive weekend in Carolina’s lineup with a 36th-place finish. She shot a 75 (+4) in a final round highlighted by birdies on Nos. 8 and 17.

Carolina’s Lois Kaye Go tied for 40th with a three-round score of 226 (+13). The sophomore made the turn at 2-over 37 and opened her back nine with a birdie on the par-4 first.

Anita Uwadia (T46, +14) boasted the low round among Gamecocks Sunday, recording a 3-over 74. She totaled 12 pars to go with birdies on No. 10 and 17. Uwadia was one of two Carolina golfers to notch multiple birdies in the final round.

Fellow Gamecock sophomore Ana Pelaez (+16) posted a final-round 77 (+6) en route to a tie for 56th. Pelaez, who opened her day with a birdie on No. 10, shot par or better on eight of her first nine holes.

No. 2 Alabama earned a wire-to-wire victory at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate after totaling an 866 (+14). No. 3 Arkansas (874, +22) placed second, while Wake Forest (878, +26) rounded out the top three. Razorback junior Maria Fassi claimed the individual title with a 54-hole total of 210 (-3).

ROUND CHANGER Marion Veysseyre

Marion Veysseyre was steady down the stretch of round three, shooting par or better on 13 of her final 14 holes. She led the Gamecocks with 41 pars for the weekend.

  • South Carolina’s 181 pars at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate ranked second among the 18-team field.
  • Carolina junior Marion Veysseyre has finished inside the top 25 at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate in each of the last two years. She tied for 14th at the tournament last season.
  • Gamecock junior Gaby Amos finished first among golfers at Long Cove Club in par-3 scoring (2.92).
  • Amos earned her best career finish (T36) for the Gamecocks this weekend at Long Cove Club.
