2018 NCEA All-Americans

WACO, Texas — The University of South Carolina equestrian team once again led the nation as the NCEA released its 2017-18 All-Academic Team on Thursday. The Gamecocks placed 12 student-athletes on the All-Academic squad, tied with TCU and Oklahoma State for the highest number in the NCEA this season.

Seven Gamecocks earned a spot on the NCEA All-Academic First Team: Lauren Fabiano, Megan Overberg, Paisley Roberts, Jordan Scott, Madison Sellman, Paige Stopperich and Madison Thiel. Student-athletes on the First Team must have competed in a minimum of 70 percent of the school’s meets, not including demo or exhibition rides, and earned a cumulative GPA of 3.5 while maintaining full-time enrollment in the previous spring and fall semesters, respectively.

The academic award is the second in as many weeks for Overberg. Last week, the senior horsemanship standout was honored as SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year. That honor marked the third consecutive season a Gamecock had won the award.

Three Gamecocks were awarded a spot on the NCEA Academic Second Team: Caroline Gute, Chloe Schmidt and Bailey Walters. Second Team honorees must have competed in a minimum of 60 percent of the school’s meets, not including demo or exhibition rides, and earned a cumulative GPA of 3.25 while maintaining full-time enrollment in the previous spring and fall semesters, respectively.

Finally, two Carolina student-athletes were named to the NCEA Academic Honorable Mention Team: Lizzie van der Walde and Bridgett White. Honorable Mention candidates were required to have competed in a minimum of 50 percent of the school’s meets, not including demo or exhibition rides, and earned a cumulative GPA of 3.0 while maintaining full-time enrollment in the previous spring and fall semesters, respectively.

The NCEA will announce its Academic Honor Roll on Tuesday, April 11.
