Three Gamecocks Earn SEC All-Freshman Recognition

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Three members of the University of South Carolina equestrian team were honored as 2018 SEC All-Freshman Team selections on Friday. Louisa Brackett and Tyler Petrie were honored for equitation over fences, while Brackett and Billi Brandner received the honor for equitation on the flat.
A native of Grayslake, Ill., Brackett earned three victories in equitation on the flat and two wins in equitation over fences this season. She earned flat MOP honors Feb. 3 against SMU, when she went 2-0 on the day. She also earned a pair of victories March 9 as the Gamecocks defeated Fresno State.
Petrie hails from Medina, Ohio, and competed twice this season for the Gamecocks in equitation over fences. She earned a victory Sept. 22 as the Gamecocks defeated Clemson in their exhibition season opener.
Brandner competed three times for the Gamecocks as a freshman. The Weston, Mass., native took part in an exhibition ride against Oklahoma State and also performed on the flat against Georgia and Auburn.

The Gamecocks compete in the 2018 NCEA Championship April 18-21 in Waco, Texas. Carolina opens the tournament with single-event competition on the first day, and it begins the main draw April 19 against top-seeded Georgia, beginning at 8:30 a.m. CT.
