Women's Tennis Signs Giulia Turconi

COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina women’s tennis has signed Giulia Turconi for the 2018-19 season, it was announced Friday.
Turconi is an 18-year-old native of Marnate, Italy, and played 27 junior matches and 10 professional matches on the ITF circuit. She currently holds a 2.4 Federazione Italiana Tennis rating.
During her decorated juniors career, Turconi won the Italian Championship in doubles in Milan and the Italian Shield. She also held a Top 100 ranking in the Tennis Europe Rankings and has been ranked third in the Italian National Rankings.
Turconi competed for the Italian National Team throughout her junior career and also played in several international tournaments in France and Germany, advancing to several quarterfinals, semifinals and one final in Kufstein, Austria.
“We are thrilled that Giulia will be joining the Gamecocks,” head coach Kevin Epley said. “She is a strong player and a hard-working young lady, who we expect to contribute right away.”
Turconi is a graduate of the Liceo Linguistico Orsoline San Carlo school in Italy.
