Baseball Hosts Missouri in Final SEC Home Series

South Carolina vs. Missouri

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The University of South Carolina baseball team will play its final SEC home series this weekend as the Gamecocks welcome Missouri to Founders Park. The series begins on Friday night (May 11) at 7 p.m. Saturday’s (May 12) contest will be Senior Day. The Senior Day festivities will begin at approximately 3:35 with first pitch at 4 p.m. The series finale will be on Sunday, May 13 at 1:30 p.m.

All three games will be streamed on SEC Network Plus with Burch Antley and Kip Bouknight on the call. Every game will be on the IMG Gamecock Radio Network with Derek Scott and Tommy Moody on the call.

The Gamecocks fell, 9-0, to the College of Charleston on Wednesday night. South Carolina is 7-3 in its last 10 games, winning each of its last three conference series.

PARKING NOTICE

> There will be no baseball shuttle on Friday or Saturday at Colonial Life Arena due to commencement. We will only be shuttling from the Key Road Lot on those two days.

SCOUTING MISSOURI

> The Tigers were swept against Georgia this past weekend, falling 5-3 in the Friday contest. Brian Sharp had a pair of hits and Chris Cornelius drove in a pair in that loss. Kameron Misner leads Mizzou with a .360 batting average and nine doubles. Trey Harris has nine home runs and a team best 45 RBI. On the mound, lefty Michael Plassmeyer, Saturday’s starter, has 91 strikeouts in 77.1 innings.

SERIES VS. MISSOURI

> The Gamecocks are 11-6 all-time against the Tigers with all 17 meetings happening since 2013. This past season, the two teams split four games. The Tigers won 2-of-3 games in Missouri in the 2017 regular season, but the Gamecocks won in the SEC Tournament as Carlos Cortes hit two home runs in a 10-2 win on May 25. Carolina is a perfect 6-0 against Mizzou in South Carolina, sweeping series in 2014 and 2016.

RANKINGS

> South Carolina moved up to 11th in the latest Collegiate Baseball poll on May 7. South Carolina also is receiving votes in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches’ poll and the NCBWA poll. Carolina currently is 44th in the RPI and has the 17th best strength of schedule, according to D1Baseball.com.

GAMECOCKS HONOR SENIORS THIS WEEKEND

> Seniors Jonah Bride, Justin Row, Madison Stokes, Hunter Taylor and Matt Williams will be honored before Saturday’s game against Missouri. The quintet has combined to play in 200 games for the Gamecocks this season and all five have been key contributors to the team in 2018. South Carolina also will honor bullpen catcher John Panchella and manager Ross Jeffries before the game against the Tigers. All seven have either graduated, are graduating Saturday or are on pace to graduate. The Senior Day ceremony will begin at 3:35 p.m.

GAMECOCKS STOUT IN LAST THREE SEC SERIES

> South Carolina is 7-2 in its last three conference series, including winning 2-of-3 games from No. 4 Ole Miss on May 4-6. The 7-2 mark is tied with Auburn for the best record in the past three weeks in the league. The Gamecocks are hitting .332 with 26 doubles, 10 home runs and 78 runs scored in those nine games. Justin Row has a .429 average with seven doubles in that stretch while Adam Hill has 19 strikeouts in 16.1 innings pitched with two wins. Eight Gamecocks are hitting over .300 in that stretch while Carlos Cortes has scored 14 runs and walked 10 times for a .500 on-base percentage.
