May 11, 2018
COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina women’s soccer coach Shelley Smith announced the addition of Selma Sól Magnusdottir Friday. The midfielder joins the Gamecocks after playing for Breioablik, a club that competes in the top women’s soccer league in Iceland.
“Selma will bring top-level international experience to the midfield,” Smith said. “I think she will complement our returning players and incoming freshmen very well.”
Magnusdottir has played for the Icelandic Women’s National Team at a variety of levels. She netted a goal for the U-19 squad at the 2017 UEFA U-19 Women’s Championships before making an appearance for Iceland’s First Team earlier this year.
The Reykjavik, Iceland, native will join a Gamecock midfield this fall that accounted for nine goals and helped Carolina total a program-record 16 shutouts in 2017.
