2018 OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD ALL-SEC TEAM
BIRGMINGHAM, Ala. — Four members of the University of South Carolina track & field program were selected to the 2018 All-Southeastern Conference Team for outdoor track & field, the league office announced Tuesday. Josh Awotunde, Otis Jones and Armand Woodley were honored as second-team picks, while KD Young earned All-Freshman recognition.
Awotunde earned his fourth-career All-SEC honor after finishing second in the shot put at the 2018 SEC Outdoor Championships, held May 11-13 in Knoxville, Tenn. The senior set a Gamecock school record at the event with a throw of 68-1 ¾. Last week in Tampa, he was the top finisher at the NCAA East Regional.
Jones earned his first-career All-SEC nod thanks to a third-place finish in the 800m at the SEC Championships. The junior collected bronze with a time of 1:47.83, the third-best mark in Carolina history.
Woodley also earned bronze at the SEC Championships, clearing 17-4 ½ in the pole vault. The junior’s third-place finish was his highest ever at the conference meet.
Young was the top freshman finisher at the SEC meet in both the shot put, where she scored with a sixth-place finish, and the hammer throw. The Decatur, Ill., native is a repeat All-Freshman Team selection after also grabbing the honor indoors.
