Recipients of 2018-19 Endowed Scholarships Announced
COLUMBIA, S.C. – University of South Carolina Athletics announced today the recipients of 13 endowed scholarships across six sports. Recipients for endowed scholarships are selected each year by the sport’s head coach.
“We are very appreciative of our Gamecock Club members, and these endowed scholarships show their commitment in supporting our student-athletes,” said South Carolina Athletics Director Ray Tanner. “We strive to provide a ‘championship experience’ for our student-athletes, and we could not do that without the generosity of our Gamecock Club members.”
The 2018-19 recipients of endowed scholarships are:

Baseball’s endowed scholarships recognize two sophomores, a junior and a senior this season. Logan Chapman started 14 of his 16 appearances on the mound in his debut campaign last season, earning SEC Freshman of the Week honors after six strikeouts in a win over LSU. Sophomore pitcher Carmen Mlodzinski picked up three wins and a save in his 19 appearances, including seen starts, including the win over UNC Wilmington in the NCAA Greenville Regional championship game. Junior Riley Hogan reached base in eight straight games last season, adding six doubles and 10 RBI. Senior outfielder TJ Hopkins hit .345 with eight doubles, two triples, two home runs and 24 RBI last season, despite missing 26 games due to injury, including 14 multi-hit games and the game-winning RBI in the 3-2 win over Clemson.
Adam Roach is in his third season as a student manager for the men’s basketball team. A native of Concord, N.C., the junior sport management major attended Cox Mill High School.
Harnessing some of the most positive energy on the women’s basketball team, sophomore LeLe Grissett showed glimpses of her future production through her freshman campaign. She scored in double figures four times, including a career-high 22 points at Vanderbilt. She closed her season by shooting 66.7 percent (4-of-6) from the field in the NCAA Regional to average 5.5 points over the two games.
Football’s five endowed scholarships include three position-specific awards. Junior quarterback Jake Bentley leads that group as the focal point of the Gamecock offense. Among his many accolades are 2017-18 SEC Sportsmanship Award, 2018 Outback Bowl MVP and 2016-17 South Carolina Male New Student-Athlete of the Year. Tight end K.C. Crosby is a fifth-year senior who earned his degree in interdisciplinary studies in May and is poised for a big campaign after earning Joe Morrison Co-Offensive Player of the Spring honors. Junior defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw has worked his way into being a key factor in the Carolina defense after dropping 40 pounds upon his arrival in Columbia a year ago and beginning to tap into his unlimited potential. Jacob August is another fifth-year senior who has already earned his bachelor’s degree (business marketing). He came to Carolina as a walk-on and has since earned a scholarship and developed into a regular contributor as a tight end and special teams performer. Fifth-year senior Donell Stanley moved from offensive guard to center this season and has already been nominated for the Rimington Award, which goes to the nation’s top center.
Women’s golf junior Anita Uwadia was an has played in 16 tournaments over her two seasons with the Gamecocks, including the 2017 NCAA Championships. In 2017-18, she was third on the team with three top-20 showings and won two of her three match-play rounds in the 2018 SEC Tournament.
Over his career, Otis Jones has matured into one of the finest 800m runners in Gamecock history. He ranks in Carolina’s all-time top five both indoors and outdoors in his signature event., and he’s a three-time NCAA Regional qualifier. As a junior, Jones earned a bronze medal at the SEC Outdoor Championships.
