Schaefer Earns Academic Honor from COSIDA
2018 Men’s and Women’s Academic All-District Teams
COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina sophomore defender Jackie Schaefer has been named to the women’s soccer CoSIDA Academic District 4 Team, the organization announced Thursday afternoon.
The first-time honoree will now be placed on the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team ballot. First- , second- and third-team All-America honorees will be revealed in December.
Schaefer, a nursing major, boasts a perfect cumulative GPA of 4.00. The Atlantic Beach, Fla., native has been named to the SEC Community Service Team in each of her first two seasons, and she has played in 37 matches for the Gamecocks, including 36 starts. The Gamecocks, who have conceded just 10 goals in 2018, lead the SEC and rank 10th in Division I in goals against average (0.51) this season.
The Gamecocks open NCAA Tournament play on Fri., Nov. 9, against UNC Greensboro. Kickoff between No. 3 seed Carolina and the Spartans is slated for 6:00 p.m. ET at Stone Stadium. The match can be seen on SEC Network+.
