Sanderson Places Eighth in FINA Open Water Competition

Freshman Gamecocks swimmer Kate Sanderson placed eighth at the FINA World Junior Open Water Swimming Championships.

EILAT, Israel- Freshman South Carolina swimmer Kate Sanderson placed eighth overall in the girls ages 18-19 race on Friday in the 2018 FINA World Junior Open Water Swimming Championships.

The 10k open water race was held in the Gulf of Aqaba, a body of water located in the northeast portion of the Red Sea outside of Eilat, Israel.

Sanderson, a freshman from Colorado Springs, Colo., competes internationally for Canada and earlier this summer, finished 10th overall in the 10K open water swim at the 2018 Pan Pacific Championships.

The Gamecocks will open their season at home on Oct. 12 at 4 p.m., against N.C. State.
