Redshirt junior ran NCAA's top 400m and 4x400m times last week
SEC TRACK & FIELD WEEKLY HONORS – JAN. 15, 2019
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — University of South Carolina track & field redshirt junior Aliyah Abrams has been named SEC Indoor Track & Field Women’s Runner of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday. This is the second weekly conference honor of Abrams’ career and the first for a Gamecock this season.
Abrams had an incredible day at South Carolina’s 2019 opener, the Orange & Purple Elite, on Jan. 11. The Grayson, Ga., native won the individual 400m with a time of 52.87 on Friday afternoon, then she returned later that night to anchor Carolina’s 4x400m relay squad to a winning time of 3:34.43. Both marks currently top the 2019 NCAA leaderboard.
A three-time All-American and a 2016 Olympian, Abrams was last honored by the SEC on Jan. 19, 2016, when she was named Women’s Freshman of the Week.
Abrams and the Gamecocks return to action Jan. 18-19 for the Gamecock Inaugural, the first-ever meet in Carolina’s new indoor track & field facility. For more information on the meet, including the complete meet schedule, click here.
