Gamecocks Down Under: Travel Days
South Carolina men's and women's tennis were selected to compete in matches from the 2019 Australian Open, the first collegiate dual-match at a professional Grand Slam. Follow all of the travel experiences from the eight-day trip for the two programs here!
Travel Days
The Gamecocks departed Columbia, S.C. on the morning of Monday, Jan. 14, and arrived in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia at approximately 9:30 a.m. local time on Wednesday, January 16. Some fun facts on our journey to the southern hemisphere:
– 10,472 total miles traveled
– 27.5 hours of travel time from start to finish.
– 23.5 hours of flight time (approx. 16 hours across the Pacific Ocean)
– Three international airports visited.
– Began the trip at 34 degrees north latitude & finished the trip at -37 degrees and eight minutes south latitude.
