COLUMBIA –The University of South Carolina baseball team went 2-2 on the week, defeating Furman on Tuesday night before losing 2-of-3 games at Tennessee. The Gamecocks won Saturday night’s contest, 3-2.

NOTES:
Brett Kerry picked up his third save of the season in a gutsy performance against Tennessee on March 23. Kerry loaded the bases in the eighth inning, but struck out the side to escape any damage. In the ninth, the tying run was 90 feet away, but Kerry struck out Al Soularie to end the game. Kerry is now 2-1 with a 2.61 ERA and 33 strikeouts in 20.2 innings pitched.
Chris Cullen had a pair of big doubles in the Tennessee series, both in the seventh inning. Cullen’s 2-run double on Saturday tied the game at two. He then scored on Jordan Holladay’s two-bagger to give Carolina a 3-2 win. Cullen then double home a pair in the seventh on Sunday, giving Carolina a 3-2 lead in a 6-3 loss. Cullen has a hit in all six SEC contests and has upped his overall batting average to .257 with six doubles, four home runs and 14 RBI.
Cam Tringali continued his excellent start to 2019 with a pair of solid outings in the Tennessee series. Tringali picked up the win on Saturday, allowing just one hit with three strikeouts in 1.2 innings pitched. Then on Sunday, he pitched 2.2 innings of relief with three strikeouts and no hits allowed. On the season, Tringali is 1-0 with a 1.82 ERA and 27 strikeouts in 24.2 innings pitched.
Brady Allen now has reached base in 21 straight contests, dating back to the first weekend of the season. He had an RBI single in Sunday’s game and belted a solo home run on Friday. Allen has a .412 on-base percentage this year.
South Carolina returns home for four games this week, facing North Carolina A&T on Tuesday and hosting Auburn over the weekend. Saturday and Sunday’s games will be televised on SEC Network.
