Gamecocks Prepped for SEC Championship
COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina equestrian team heads to College Station to participate in the SEC Championship as the No. 4 seed. The Gamecocks face off against No. 1-seeded Auburn on Friday at 2:30 p.m. ET at the Hildebrand Equine Complex.
Carolina (6-6, 1-5 SEC) and the Tigers (13-0, 6-0) compete for the third time this season for the right to go to the championship meet. Auburn took both of the regular-season competitions opposite of South Carolina, 18-2 and 14-6.
In the first ride between the two programs on Sept. 28, 2018, sophomore Tyler Petrie earned the first win of her collegiate career, outscoring her opponent by four for the, 86-82, victory in Equitation Over Fences.
During the same meet, senior Bridgett White topped All-American Terri June Granger in Reining, 69-68.5.
Competing again on Feb. 16, junior Jordan Scott tallied the highest score in Reining with a 73.5. At the conclusion of the meet, Scott was honored as the Reining MOP for her, 73.5-71.5, victory.
The Gamecocks ended their season with a, 15-4, defeat of Delaware State on Senior Day at One Wood Farm.
For Auburn, it closed out the 2018-19 regular season by downing Georgia, 17-3, at the Auburn University Equestrian Center.
Prior to South Carolina and the Tigers competing, Georgia (4-6, 3-3) and Texas A&M (9-4, 2-4) matchup at 10 a.m. ET. The winners of the two meets face off at 2 p.m. ET on Saturday for the championship. The remaining two teams will ride at 10 a.m. ET in the consolation round.
The championship round is set to be live streamed on SECN+ with the time slot running from 1:45 to 6 p.m. ET.
