Gamecocks Welcome Seven Newcomers For 2019-20 Campaign

COLUMBIA, S.C. – University of South Carolina head men’s basketball coach Frank Martin announced his incoming class for the 2019-20 campaign on Monday. The seven-member group is comprised of five freshmen and two upperclassmen transfers, including: Trey Anderson (Fr. – F – 6-5 – San Diego, Calif./Mater Dei Catholic/Woodstock Academy), Mike Green (Fr. – G – 6-1 – Myrtle Beach, S.C./Christian Academy of Myrtle Beach), Trae Hannibal (Fr. – G – 6-1 – Hartsville, S.C./Hartsville), Micaiah Henry (Gr. – F/C – 6-9 – Decatur, Ga./Columbia High School/Tennessee Tech), Wildens Leveque (Fr. – F/C – 6-10 – Brockton, Mass./Gould Academy), Jalyn McCreary (Fr. – F – 6-8 – Marietta, Ga./Legacy Early College High School) and Seventh Woods (Sr. – G – 6-1 – Columbia, S.C./Hammond School/North Carolina).

Trey Anderson (Fr. – F – 6-5 – San Diego, Calif./Mater Dei Catholic/Woodstock Academy)

• Following prep career, spent a post-grad season at Woodstock Academy, averaging 10 points and seven rebounds per game
• Averaged 16.7 points and a team-best 7.4 rebounds per game to help lead Mater Dei Catholic squad to a league championship title and a berth in the San Diego Section Open Division semifinal playoffs as a senior
• Named the 2017-18 Mesa League Player of the Year (The Star News) as a senior
• Labeled as a strong shooter, who is a competitor with great length

 
Martin on Anderson…
“Trey is a 6-5 athletic wing, that can shoot the basketball.  He’s very competitive and multi-talented defensively, so we’re excited about the possibilities of what he can contribute right away.”
 
 
Mike Green (Fr. – G – 6-1 – Myrtle Beach, S.C./Christian Academy of Myrtle Beach)

• Scored over 2,000 points during prep career, while also pulling down over 600 rebounds and dishing out over 500 assists
• Named South Carolina Independent Schools Association 2018-19 AA All-State by the High School Sports Report
• Played varsity as an eighth grader, averaging 15 points per game
• Noted as a player with high-level shooting ability and excellent vision

 
Martin on Green…
“Mike, who is from the Myrtle Beach area, turned down numerous scholarship offers because of his belief in who we are as a basketball program and his willingness to play for his state.  He has come here paying his own way, and doing everything in his power to earn a scholarship as we move forward.”
 
 
Trae Hannibal (Fr. – G – 6-1 – Hartsville, S.C./Hartsville)

• Named the Class 4A co-Player of the Year as a senior at Hartsville, finishing his prep career with over 1,500 points, which included a 62-point performance in his final high school contest
• Also named the Florence Morning News‘ boys basketball player of the year as a senior, when he averaged 26.8 points per game
• Averaged 16.6 points, 7.7 rebounds and 5.2 assists as a junior at Hartsville, also earning all-state honors
• Noted as a player with great athleticism, who plays with pace

 
Martin on Hannibal…
“Trae is a young man from Hartsville [S.C.], who scored 62 points and grabbed 20 rebounds in his final high school game.  He is a dynamic point guard, who has size, strength, basketball skill and IQ.  We’re extremely excited about who he will become in his time at South Carolina.”
 
 
Micaiah Henry (Gr. – F/C – 6-9 – Decatur, Ga./Columbia High School/Tennessee Tech)

• Graduate transfer from Tennessee Tech where he averaged 9.7 points and 4.7 rebounds in 31 appearances in 2018-19
• Hit 50 percent or better from the floor each of his three seasons with the Golden Eagles, including a career best 61.5 percent as a redshirt-sophomore
• During prep career at Columbia High School, averaged 16 points and 11 rebounds per game as a senior, en route to First Team All-Region accolades
• Graduated from Tennessee Tech with a degree in finance

 
Martin on Henry…
“Micaiah is a graduate transfer from Tennessee Tech, who is a 6-9 low-post player that is comfortable playing with his back to the basket.  He has really good hands, and he is a highly-competitive young man that has a tremendous feel of how to score around the basket.”
 
 
Wildens Leveque (Fr. – F/C – 6-10 – Brockton, Mass./Gould Academy)

• Averaged 14 points, 13 rebounds and two blocks per game as a junior at Gould Academy, earning NEPSAC AA Honorable Mention accolades
• Noted as the No. 2 player in the state of Massachusetts by ESPN.com
• Named All-NEPSAC AA following senior season
• Labeled as a competitive player with great form on his shot

 
Martin on Leveque…
“Wildens is a 6-10 athletic center, who knows he is a back-to-the basket player.  He is a rim protector, he’s a runner, and he has real good hands, so he can figure out a way to help on offense and defense from the word go.”
 
 
Jalyn McCreary (Fr. – F – 6-8 – Marietta, Ga./Legacy Early College High School)

• Averaged 18 points and six rebounds as a senior at Legacy Early College
• Named a USA Today South Carolina All-State Second Team honoree after helping his squad to a 34-5 overall record during senior campaign
• Scored 18 points to lead his team to the USA National Prep Tournament Championship in March
• Noted as an athletic combo forward with good court awareness

 
Martin on McCreary…
“Jalyn is a 6-8 athletic, aggressive forward, who is freakishly athletic. In the open court, he is a finisher from the mid-range and he is a dunking highlight reel, a lot like Keyshawn Bryant.”
 
 
Seventh Woods (Sr. – G – 6-1 – Columbia, S.C./Hammond School/North Carolina)

• Saw action in 94 career games at North Carolina, averaging 1.8 points and 1.1 rebounds per game; a member of UNC’s 2017 national championship team
• Played prep career at Hammond School in Columbia, averaging 18.9 points, 4.5 rebounds and five assists per game as a senior
• Helped 2015 squad capture state championship
• Twice named Mr. Basketball in the state of South Carolina, while collecting other accolades such as all-region and all-state honors, while also being named the South Carolina Independent Schools Association Player of the Year four times during prep career

“I’m extremely excited to get Seventh back home.  He has learned a lot over the last three years, and obviously he was a rotation player on a national championship team.  Who he is to this community – I don’t need to say much about it, I think that’s understood.  I’m excited – and I think so is he – to be able to get to help him, and help him regain that trust that he had in himself, so after a redshirt year, he can line up and play with the same kind of confidence and aggressiveness that he played in throughout his high school career at Hammond.”
