Signee Roussin-Bouchard Headlines Gamecocks in International Play

COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina women’s golf 2019 signee Pauline Roussin-Bouchard highlights four Gamecocks set to take part in international play this week. Roussin-Bouchard will compete in the 2019 Evian Championship, the fourth of five LPGA majors. Ana Pelaez and 2019 signee Mathilde Claisse will participate in the European Ladies’ Amateur Championship, while Anita Uwadia will compete in the Canadian Ladies’ Amateur Championship.

Roussin-Bouchard earned an amateur exemption into the Evian Championship by finishing as the runner-up at the Jabra Ladies Open back in May.

“Pauline has been dominating on the golf course all year,” South Carolina head coach Kalen Anderson said. “She has truly earned her spot in the field at the Evian, and I know she will show up to compete against the best professionals in the world this week. Playing in an LPGA major will be an invaluable experience before arriving to school this August. We’re excited and proud that Pauline is a Gamecock.”

“I’m very happy right now, and I can’t wait to play in The Evian Championship,” Roussin-Bouchard said. “It’s a dream come true.”

The Evian Championship is set to begin on Thursday, July 25, at Evian-les-Bains, France, at the Evian Resort Golf Club. The Evian Championship first became an official LPGA Tour event in 2000 and later became a major event in 2013. The top 70 players and ties will make the cut after 36 holes.

Roussin-Bouchard has dominated the amateur circuit this summer. The Carquiranne, France native currently sits as the No. 8 player in the World Amateur Golf rankings, the highest Gamecock since Ainhoa Olarra. The 2019 signee is also ranked No. 3 in the latest European Golf Rankings, the second highest in her career.

Pelaez and Claisse will compete with 144 of the game’s best amateur players from across Europe at the European Ladies’ Amateur Championship starting on July 24. Taking place at Parkstone Golf Club in England, the field will be cut down to 60 players after the third round.

For Uwadia, the Canadian Amateur Ladies’ Championship will span four rounds July 23-26 at Red Deer Golf and Country club in Red Deer, Alberta. The 106th edition of the event will bring together 156 players from 13 countries over four stroke play rounds. The field will be reduced to 70 and ties for the final two rounds.

The Evian Championship will air on both the Golf Channel and CNBC. On Thursday, July 25, and Friday July 26, play will air in two blocks. The first block will air 5-7 a.m., and the second block will air 9:30-11:30 a.m. On Saturday, July 27 and Sunday, July 28, play will once again air in two blocks, but on two separate channels. The first block will air 6-9 a.m. on the Golf Channel. The afternoon block will air 9-11:30 a.m. on CNBC both weekend days.
