Fisk Named to 2019 MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List
COLUMBIA, S.C. – University of South Carolina women’s soccer captain Grace Fisk was named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List, United Soccer Coaches announced Wednesday. This is the second year in a row Fisk has been named to the list for the annual honor that recognizes the top women’s soccer player in NCAA Division I.
“It is quite an honor to be named to this list, and Grace is very deserving of this recognition,” South Carolina head coach Shelley Smith said. “She is a role model student-athlete who displays great sportsmanship, commitment and dedication every day. As a team captain she is a tremendous leader on and off the field.”
As a senior leader, Fisk enters the 2019 season already as one of the most decorated defensive players in South Carolina history. Fisk, a Bromley, London, native has earned All-America honors for two-straight seasons and is the two-time defending SEC Defensive Player of the Year.
Fisk’s impact has been felt by Carolina’s women’s soccer program since she arrived in 2017. Fisk, who primarily functions as a center back, has been part of 28 Carolina shutouts during her 44-match career. The 63.6 percent shutout rate is the best in the SEC during that 44-match span. She’s the first Gamecock to win SEC Defensive Player of the Year in back-to-back years and is the first defender to be named an All-American in back-to-back seasons in South Carolina women’s soccer history.
During her two years in Columbia, the Gamecocks are 22-1-1 at home and hold a record of 15-3-2 in the SEC. She has scored four goals, three of which were gamewinners, while adding a pair of assists.
The 15 semifinalists for the 2019 MAC Hermann Trophy will be announced on Dec. 3. The group of semifinalists will be determined by All-America voting conducted by NCAA Division I women’s soccer coaches with oversight from the United Soccer Coaches Division I Women’s Senior College All-America Committee.
Voting for the three MAC Hermann Trophy finalists will get underway following the announcement of the semifinalists. The finalists will be revealed on Dec. 13, and the winner will be announced on Jan. 10, 2020, at the Hermann Trophy Press Conference and Awards Banquet at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis.
With the preseason just around the corner, Fisk and the Gamecocks will begin to gear up for an exhibition contest with Coastal Carolina on Aug. 15 in Conway, S.C., followed by the regular-season opener with NC State on Aug. 22 at Stone Stadium.
