Gamecocks and Roussin-Bouchard Take Top Honors at Windy City Classic

Golf, Ill. – The University of South Carolina women’s golf is heading home with some hardware after the team won the Windy City Collegiate Classic, and freshman Pauline Roussin-Bouchard took medalist honors at the Glen View Golf Club on Tuesday.

“They were awesome,” head coach Kalen Anderson said of her team. “Lot of patience out there. The 36-hole day yesterday was tough on them but they were extremely patient and resilient all week. Pauline’s performance was awesome. Obviously for her to win as a freshman was excellent, but it takes a whole group to win it all and beat a lot of good teams. Ana’s 3-under was so key, and to have Lois back in the lineup and shooting 2-under today was huge. It was a total team effort and they played great today. They just hung in there until the end. I’m really proud of this group, they took care of some things we needed to and took care of business.”

The No. 14 Gamecocks entered the day one stroke back of No. 6 Florida and one stroke ahead of No. 4 Southern California. The Trojans drew even with the Gamecocks at one point on the back nine, but the Garnet and Black rose to the occasion to secure the win with a 5-under today, finishing the tournament 14-under (850). The score is the fifth-lowest 54-hole tournament score in program history.

Roussin-Bouchard continued to play stellar in the final round, shooting a 70 (-2) to finish the tournament 11-under, three strokes better than her nearest opponent. Her 205 for the tournament breaks the previous freshman record for a 54-hole tournament, previously held by Ana Pelaez’s 208 from the Florida State Match-Up in 2017.

Speaking of Pelaez, the senior shot a 69 (-3) in the final round to finish 1-under for the tournament, tied for 11th place.

In her first tournament of the season senior Lois Kaye Go tied Pelaez with a 1-under after all three rounds, finishing in a tie for 11th place. Go started the tournament well enough, shooting a two-over in the opening round, but finished the second round with a 71 (-1) and wrapped up the tournament with a 70 (-2) on Tuesday.

Emily Price hit a minor speedbump today, shooting a 74 (+2) and finishing the tournament with a 217 (+1). The sophomore tallied four birdies on Tuesday, tied for the team lead.

Freshman Mathilde Claisse finished the tournament with a 77 (+5), and Anita Uwadia got back on track on Tuesday, shooting a 72 (even).

This win marks the first stroke play tournament win for the Gamecocks since the 2018 edition of the Florida State Match-Up.

The Gamecocks are back at it next weekend with a trip to the Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invitational. Action gets underway next Friday, Oct. 11, in Chapel Hill, N.C.
