Gamecocks Set for Clash with Aggies
Columbia, S.C. – The No. 8 South Carolina equestrian team hits the road this week for a SEC clash with No. 2 Texas A&M. The action is set to get underway at Noon ET on Friday from Hildebrand Equine Complex in College Station, Texas.
Last Time Out
The Gamecocks (1-2, 0-2 SEC) played host to the No. 1 Auburn Tigers. Carolina earned a pair of Most Outstanding Player honors with senior Caroline Gute winning for reining and sophomore Sloane Vogt prevailing in horsemanship, but Gamecocks suffered a 6-14 loss on the day.
Gute notched a 74-point ride on Wrangler, besting Auburn’s Jen Kasper by 10 points, to secure her M.O.P. honor. Vogt, earning the first M.O.P. win of her career, scored 75 on Frosty. Though Carolina came up short overall a number of riders had impressive showings, including Caroline Bald’s 84 on Cita over fences. Bald, facing off against Auburn’s Taylor St. Jacques, emerged victorious for the Garnet and Black. Vogt earned a second point in the meet as she won her reining matchup with a 71-point ride on Stoner. Quinn Brant also picked up a win in horsemanship with a 75-point ride on Jazz, and Kit Cunningham came up big on Joe with a 70 on the flat.
Scouting the Aggies
Texas A&M (2-1, 1-0 SEC) enters the weekend fresh off a 10-8 win at then No. 2 Georgia. The Aggies opened the season with an 11-4 win against TCU in Fresno before dropping an 11-9 decision the following day to Fresno State.
