Four Gamecocks Listed in Final Fall Rankings

TEMPE, Ariz. – South Carolina women’s tennis senior Mia Horvit, junior Megan Davies, as well as senior Silvia Chinellato and freshman Emma Shelton, appear in the ITA’s final fall rankings as announced on Wednesday evening.
 
Horvit moved up to No. 27, originally sitting at No. 49 in the preseason rankings. This fall, Horvit put up a record of 13-7, including an even 7-7 against national-ranked opponents. Horvit’s highest ranked win came at the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships when she defeated UCLA’s No. 9-ranked Jada Hart in three sets, 3-6, 6-0, 6-4, advancing to the quarterfinals.
 
Davies climbed almost 100 spots from her preseason ranking of No. 125, landing at No. 28 on the list. For Davies, this marks the highest ranking of her collegiate career by 53, besting her previous high of No. 81. Throughout the fall, Davies amassed a 16-9 record, also going 7-7 opposite of national-ranked opponents. Davies had her highest win of the season against N.C. State’s No. 40-ranked Alana Smith, 1-6, 6-4, 7-6 (11) in the Quarterfinals at the ITA Carolina Region Championships.
 
Appearing in doubles for the Gamecocks, Chinellato and Shelton made the list at No. 18. For Chinellato this is her highest doubles rankings and serves as Shelton’s first of her career. Together they put up a mark of 7-3 during the fall. The duo stormed through the doubles bracket, advancing to the ITA Carolina Region Championships finals, where they put up a good battle against No. 1-ranked Smith and Anna Rogers of N.C. State.
