Carolina Hits the Road for Final Fall Tournaments

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina women’s tennis team is splitting up this weekend for its final tournaments of the fall season, heading to the 2019 Oracle ITA National Fall Championships and the FSU All-Conference Showdown.

2019 Oracle ITA National Fall Championships

The Gamecocks earned four bids to the final ITA tournament of the season with No. 49-ranked Mia Horvit and No. 125 Megan Davies selected for singles and Silvia Chinellato and Emma Shelton appearing in the doubles draw.

This fall season, Chinellato and Shelton are 7-1 together, dropping their only match to the nation’s No. 1-ranked doubles team in the finals of the ITA Carolina Region Championships.

Davies has seen a successful fall in the way of singles, sweeping her Pre-Qualifying draw at the ITA Women’s All-American Championships in early October. She then went on to eventually sweep the Qualifying Consolation bracket as well. At regionals, Davies took four-straight matches, closing out her tournament in the semifinals.

Horvit earned a spot in the Main Draw at All-Americans, falling in her first match, but then picking up a pair of wins in consolation. At the ITA Carolina Region Championships, Horvit advanced to the Round of 16.

Action kicks off on Wednesday morning at the Newport Beach Tennis Club with Round of 64 singles and Round of 32 doubles both beginning at 11 a.m. ET.

Live scoring and live video will be available for the tournament and the finals matches will air on ESPN3 on Sunday.

FSU All-Conference Showdown

Competition for Ana Luiza Cruz, Gabriela Martinez Asensi, Elise Mills and Kendall Couch starts on Friday at the FSU All-Conference Showdown. Play will run until Sunday at the Speicher Memorial Tennis Center.

Brackets are yet to be released for both tournaments. Stay up to date with all tournament happenings on the team’s Twitter (@GamecockWTennis).
