Carolina Releases 2020 Dual Match Schedule

COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina women’s tennis head coach Kevin Epley announced the 2020 dual match schedule on Wednesday afternoon, a slate featuring 11 home matches, including ITA Kick-Off Weekend, and eight away contests.

“We certainly aren’t starting this season off slowly,” Epley said. “We are diving headfirst into some stiff competition. We are looking forward to the challenge and getting a feel for where we are early in the season as a litmus test for the upcoming SEC season. We are going to have to make sure we come off the Holiday break ready to go.”

South Carolina kicks off its spring season by traveling to Raleigh, N.C., to compete against N.C. State on Saturday, Jan. 18. The next weekend, the Gamecocks host their third-straight ITA Kick-Off Weekend from Jan. 25-26 at the Carolina Tennis Center. Carolina is the No. 1 seed in the winter tournament, while Georgia Tech is the No. 2, Wisconsin serves as the No. 3, and the No. 4 seed is Purdue. South Carolina will face off against the Boilermakers with the winners of the No. 1 versus No. 4 and No. 2 versus No. 3 matches playing for a spot at the DI Women’s National Team Indoors.

Next up, Carolina hosts Clemson in the Palmetto Series on Thursday, Jan. 30, before hitting the road for a pair of matches against Texas Tech and a neutral-site competition opposite of Denver.

Returning home, the Gamecocks take on Coastal Carolina prior to the start of SEC play. South Carolina begins conference matches on the road at Auburn and Alabama. Other home opponents include, Texas A&M, LSU, Arkansas, Mizzou, Vanderbilt, Kentucky and Florida.

With the season wrapping up against the Gators on Saturday, April 11, South Carolina will have just four days between the regular season and the start of the SEC Tournament. The teams will reconvene in Tuscaloosa, Ala., from Wednesday, April 15 to Sunday, April 19 for the tournament. Last season, the Gamecocks won their first SEC Tournament championship in program history after upsetting undefeated and No. 1-ranked Georgia, 4-3, after being given just a five percent chance to win the match.
