No. 9 South Carolina Defeats No. 44 Arkansas, 4-0

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – South Carolina junior Silvia Chinellato won her eighth-consecutive match in Carolina’s, 4-0, routing of Arkansas on Sunday afternoon at the Billingsley Tennis Center in Fayetteville, Ark.
 
The No. 9 Gamecocks went undefeated on the weekend and are now 9-2 overall and remain perfect in SEC play at 4-0. After the loss, No. 44 Arkansas moves to 7-8 overall and 0-4 in the SEC.
 
Starting off strong, Carolina picked up its fifth-straight doubles point of the season against the Razorbacks with wins on courts two and three.
 
At the No. 2 position, Paige Cline and Chinellato jumped out to an early, 4-1, lead over Martina Zerulo and Thea Rice. The Razorbacks’ duo made a push, winning three games in-a-row, tying it, 4-4. Cline and Chinellato were able to outlast Zerulo and Rice, defeating the pair, 6-4.
 
Facing off on court three, Carolina’s pair of Kennedy Wicker and Megan Davies went back-and-forth with Miruna Tudor and Jackie Carr. Holding a narrow, 5-4, lead, Wicker and Davies were able to pull out their fourth-consecutive doubles win, 6-4, and clinch the doubles point for the Gamecocks.
 
No. 99 Mia Horvit sped to a victory over Laura Rijkers at the No. 3 spot, 6-3, 6-2. Her win gave Carolina a, 2-0, lead and put Horvit on a three-match win streak.
 
At the No. 5 position, Chinellato trailed Lauren Alter in the beginning of their first set, 3-2. Chinellato found her groove against the Razorback, charging to a, 6-4, first-set win. In the second set, Chinellato this time found herself up, 3-2. With the advantage, she won three-straight games for a, 6-4, 6-2, victory, extending Carolina’s lead to 3-0.
 
Also seeing Carr in singles, Davies won three games in-a-row, taking the first set, 6-3. In the second set, Davies did not allow Carr a single game, blanking the Razorback, 6-0, and clinching the overall match for the Gamecocks, 4-0.
 
Next, South Carolina returns home to play host to Tennessee on Friday, March 15 at 5 p.m. and Georgia on Sunday, March 17 at 1 p.m. at the Carolina Tennis Center.
