No. 2-Seeded Gamecocks Face No. 7 Florida in the Quarterfinals

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The South Carolina women’s tennis team faces off against Florida on Friday at 11 a.m. ET in the quarterfinals of the SEC Tournament at the Mitchell Tennis Center in College Station, Texas.

The No. 2-seeded Gamecocks (17-3, 12-1 SEC) play their first match of the week after having two byes. Advancing to the quarterfinals, No. 7 Florida (12-10, 7-6 SEC) topped No. 10 Ole Miss in the second round, 4-2, on Thursday afternoon.

“We’ve been here in College Station for a few days now and are practicing with good intensity and energy,” head coach Kevin Epley said. “The team is ready to compete and all eyes are on (Friday’s) first round match. We are ready to go.”

Carolina heads into the postseason on a seven-match win streak after wrapping up the regular season with a, 4-2, victory at Florida. The win marked South Carolina’s first against the Gators in 37 years with the last win coming, 5-5, in 1982.

Senior and No. 23 Paige Cline looks to lead her team to their first win in their first postseason match of the year, having claimed seven-consecutive matches at the No. 2 spot leading up to Friday’s competition. So far this season, Cline is 10-3 for Carolina in duals.

Also on hot streaks, juniors No. 84 Mia Horvit and Silvia Chinellato have each won four in-a-row. On court three, Horvit has tallied a 12-2 mark, while Chinellato is 9-1 at the No. 5 spot.

In doubles, sophomores Megan Davies and Kennedy Wicker sit at 10-3 on court three and are 9-2 against SEC opponents. The Gamecock tandem has also won four-straight matches.
