Jubb and Rodrigues Named First Team All-SEC

Raphael Lambling and Daniel Rodrigues were named to the SEC All-Freshman Team.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala- South Carolina men’s tennis had three student-athletes earn all-conference honors as fourth-ranked Paul Jubb and Daniel Rodrigues were named First Team All-SEC as announced by the league office Thursday.  Rodrigues and fellow true freshman Raphael Lambling were also named to the SEC All-Freshman team.

This marks just the second time in the program’s history that Carolina has earned two first team all-conference selections, and is the first time since Guillaume Legat and Jerome Jourdon were named First Team All-SEC back in 1999.  It is also the first time in the Gamecocks’ history in which they have had two all-freshman selections.

The Gamecocks were one of just five schools this season to have multiple first team selections and one of just two schools with multiple all-freshman honorees.

Jubb went 19-2 in dual matches playing No. 1 singles for South Carolina and currently ranks first in career dual-match win percentage (.823) and first in career SEC win percentage (.844).  He went 11-1 (.916) through conference play, the highest SEC win percentage for a single season in Carolina history, and also has the most wins over ranked opponents (17) in a single season in school history.

Rodrigues was one of just two freshman to earn additional all-conference recognition and the only freshman to be named First Team All-SEC.  The true freshman from Funchal, Portugal, already has the third-most singles wins by a freshman in program history with a 31-10 overall record on the year and was named to the SEC All-Tournament Team after posting a pair of ranked wins in his last two matches.

Lambling, a true freshman from Paris, France, earned All-Freshman SEC recognition after going 6-6 in conference play at No. 3 singles.  Lambling posted multiple clinching points in tight matches for Carolina this season, securing team wins for the Gamecocks against Clemson in the regular season as well as conference tournament wins over No. 42 LSU and No. 11 Texas A&M.

The 17th-ranked Gamecocks now await the 2019 NCAA Tournament Selection Show will air on Monday, April 29, at 6 p.m. ET.
