Senior Spotlight: Madison Sellman
Madison Sellman is the definition of a leader, both in the ring and in the classroom. A four-year starter in both flat and fences, Sellman was named a captain prior to her senior season.
“She’s the brains of the team,” head coach Boo Major said when speaking of her captain. “Maddie is so smart both in and out of the competition arena. She often has a solution for a problem before it is presented. She’s been a great captain of the jumping seat team and has led by example.”
The example she leads by, with multiple Most Outstanding Player honors spread out over her career, extends to the classroom too. After being named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll the first three years of her Carolina career Sellman was named the Equestrian SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year for 2019. Her other academic honors include NCEA All-Academic First Team honors in 2017-18 and 2018-19.
In the competition arena Sellman is no slouch either. She earned All-SEC fences honors as a freshman in 2016-17, along with SEC All-Freshman Team honors for both flat and fences. Sellman earned the first SEC Rider of the Month honor of her career earlier this season, taking the honors for her work on the flat in September.
Sellman is a biological science major set to graduate in May.
