Senior Spotlight: Caroline Gute
During her four years in Columbia there isn’t much that Caroline Gute hasn’t done. From winning SEC Reining Rider of the Year as a freshman, to earning academic honors every year she’s been here, Gute has been a beacon for the Gamecocks.
“Caroline has been the work horse for the team in the arena,” head coach Boo Major said. “She’s willing to do everything in her power to help the horses, her teammates and herself get better. Caroline is always willing to speak her mind which is a trait I admire.”
Gute’s freshman year went down in the record books as one of the best in Gamecock history. She set the record for reining wins by a freshman with 10 on her way to winning the SEC Reining Rider of the Year award. She also claimed a spot on the NCEA First Team All-America squad becoming just the second Gamecock to do that.
The honors continued to pour in over her next two seasons as she kept putting up record numbers. With her wins as a senior Gute has moved up to No. 3 all-time with 34 reining wins, and she’s one reining M.O.P. win away from tying the program record of 11.
On top of her excellence in the competition arena Gute has made the SEC Academic Honor Roll all three years of her time at Carolina, and she’s earned NCEA All-Academic Second Team and NCEA Academic Honor Roll distinction the last two years.
Gute is management major and she’s set to graduate in May.
