No. 4 Gamecocks Clash with No. 10 Delaware State

Columbia, S.C. – The No. 4 South Carolina equestrian team heads north for its regular season finale against the No. 10 Delaware State Hornets. The action is set to get underway at 9 a.m. ET on Friday at the Dovington Training Center in Dover.
 
Last Time Out
 
The Gamecocks (6-5, 3-3 SEC) ended their SEC slate with a trip to No. 1 Auburn. Freshman Madeline Schaefer earned her third Most Outstanding Player of the month with a win over McKayla Langmeier, but Carolina fell to the Tigers 13-5,.
 
Notes from the Farm

  • Madeline Schaefer finished the month of February with a 4-0 record, resulting in her being named the NCEA Fences Rider of the Month. Schaefer notched wins over riders from South Dakota State, Texas A&M, Georgia and Auburn to stay perfect for the month. She holds a 6-2-0 record so far as a Gamecock.
  • Freshman Jordan Allen continues to deliver for Carolina with her win over Auburn’s Emma Kurtz last weekend. Allen has posted a 6-2-0 record this season and was one 83-84 loss against Texas A&M’s Caroline Dance away from a perfect 4-0 February.
  • Senior Madison Sellman earned a win over Auburn’s Paige Mathies last weekend to give her a 7-2-1 flat record for the season. Sellman has 23 wins on the flat in her career, tied for eighth all time in program history.
  • Freshman Natalie Vargo leads all Gamecock freshmen with nine wins, five in horsemanship and four in reining. She’s on a three-ride reining winning streak entering the weekend.   

Scouting the Hornets
 
Delaware State (4-4, 2-0 ECAC) posted an 8-7 win over UT Martin in its last outing. The Hornets have wins over UT Martin, South Dakota State and Baylor this season.
