Wilson Named First Team All-SEC
Senior All-American becomes 11th First Team All-SEC selection in program history
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Senior Jamie Wilson was tabbed one of eight golfers named First Team All-SEC, as the league office announced its annual golf awards on Wednesday afternoon. It’s the first all-conference recognition for the four-year starter out of Mount Pleasant, S.C.
This marks another accolade to add to Wilson’s list of honors for his on-course performance this season. He was recently named PING Honorable Mention All-America and also earned a spot on the PING All-Southeast Region Team.
Wilson led the Gamecocks in scoring average (70.86), rounds of par or better (14) and top-20 finishes (5) during the shortened 2019-20 campaign. He finished in the top-10 three times in seven starts. Wilson T-4th at the J.T. Poston Invitational back in the fall after logging a career-best round of 203 (-10). He shot 64 (-7) in the second round, which T-4th lowest 18-hole score in program history, and helped the team break the 54-hole, school scoring record at 806 (-46). Wilson nearly won his first collegiate tournament in the regular season finale at the General Hackler Championship (March 9-10). He was in the lead on the back nine before a couple of bogeys late in the round and would ultimately finish sixth to pace the Gamecocks in Myrtle Beach.
The 2020 All-American boast a career scoring average of 72.55, which puts him seventh all-time at South Carolina. Wilson’s 70.86 average in 2019-20 is the fifth-best mark in program history, trailing only four All-Americans in Will Starke (70.27), Matt NeSmith (70.51), Scott Stevens (70.59) and Keenan Huskey (70.63).
Wilson is the 17th All-SEC player under head coach Bill McDonald since 2007. He also becomes the 11th golfer in program history to be named First Team All-SEC since Carolina joined the league back in 1992.
Junior Jack Parrott earned a spot on the SEC Community Service Team for the second-straight season. The local product from AC Flora High School led the team again in outreach hours participating in events with Habitat for Humanity, Harvest Hope Food Bank and the First Presbyterian Church in downtown Columbia. He was also one of the lead organizers for the annual Palmetto Series Food Drive with Clemson. In the classroom, the public health major (psychology minor) leads the team in GPA and has been a member of the President’s List (4.0 semester GPA) three times (Fall 19, Spring 19, Fall 18).
On the course, Parrott played in six events with five starts. He logged seven rounds of par or better and a scoring average of 72.94. Parrott shot his first ever round in the 60s with a career-best 66 (-5) on the second day of Ka’anapali Collegiate Classic (Nov. 3) back in the fall. He also recorded a career-best T-26th finish in a loaded field at the Tavistock Collegiate Invitational (Oct. 20-22).
