First Day of Bulldog Invitational Complete

ATHENS, Ga. — The South Carolina women’s tennis team competed at the Bulldog Invitational in Athens, Ga., on Friday.

The Gamecocks began the day with three doubles matches, two against Florida and one versus Georgia. Megan Davies and Mia Horvit picked up South Carolina’s lone win on the day over McCartney Kessler and Marlee Zein of Florida, winning 7-6(7) to improve to 3-1 together this fall. The duos of Elise Mills/Corina Spasojevic and Silvia Chinellato/Emma Shelton lost 6-2 decisions to Sydney Berlin/Sara Dahlstrom of Florida and Katarina Jokic/Marta Gonzalez from Georgia.

It was a tough day for Carolina in its seven singles contests, four against Florida, two versus Georgia and one with Kentucky. Shelton, Chinellato, Davies, Spasojevic, Mills and Gabriela Martinez all fell in straight sets. Newcomer Lindsay Tulenko lost in three sets to Berlin.

Play continues in the Bulldog Invitational on Saturday morning with the Gamecocks taking on Kentucky in doubles first and then singles matches with the Wildcats later in the day.
