Gamecocks Finish 11th at Legends Collegiate Invitational
Tennessee native Ryan Hall shot a final round 67 (-4) to finish T-18th
FRANKLIN, Tenn. – South Carolina finished 11th at the 2020 Legends Collegiate Invitational on Tuesday. The Gamecocks shot a final round 284 (E) and posted a 54-hole total of 845 (-7) for the tournament.
“Ryan played well again this week and Rafe had a solid debut in his first event,” said head coach Bill McDonald. “Otherwise, we just didn’t make enough birdies and I saw a lot of undisciplined, emotional golf for our guys and that is extremely disappointing. We have a lot to work on before our next event in Birmingham.”
Carolina had high hopes heading into the week after a strong fourth place finish at the all-SEC Blessings Collegiate Invitational to open the fall back on Oct. 5-7. The team had 51 red numbers on the scorecard this week, third-fewest in the field.
Junior Ryan Hall led the Gamecocks in the final round with a season-best round of 67 (-4). He played great from start-to-finish in the tournament and made just one bogey all day while leading the team with five birdies in the final round. Hall, who is a native of Knoxville, Tenn., and is back playing in his homestate for the first time as a Gamecock, finished T-18th at 6-under. It marks his second top-20 of the season and the ninth of his career.
Freshman Rafe Reynolds shot 72 (+1) in the final round with a pair of birdies. The Greenville, S.C., native, finished T-40th (E) in his debut in Garnet and Black. Super seniors Jamie Wilson (72) and Caleb Proveaux (73) were the other counting scores for Carolina in the round three. Senior Jack Parrott shot 73 (+2) and finished T-37th at 1-under overall for the tournament. He was well-positioned for his first career top-20 at the turn, posting a bogey free 34 (-2) on the front nine. Parrott shot 39 (+4) coming in however and was hurt by a double bogey at the par-5 fourth hole.
Host Vanderbilt won the team title by five shots over Georgia this week shooting 813 (-39). Arkansas’ Julian Perico took home medalist honors by a shot over the Commodores’ John Augenstein, tallying a 54-hole total of 199 (-14).
The Gamecocks will look to bounce back in the fall finale at the Jerry Pate National intercollegiate in two weeks (Nov. 9-10). It’ll be another stacked all-SEC field as Carolina wraps up the fall portion of its schedule.
