The Gamecocks went 2-2 on the week, defeating Presbyterian before dropping 2-of-3 to Northwestern.

COLUMBIA – The University of South Carolina baseball team went 2-2 this midweek, defeating Presbyterian, 14-3, on Wednesday night before dropping 2-of-3 games to Northwestern on the weekend.

NOTES:
Wes Clarke belted a pair of home runs in Saturday’s 12-3 win over Northwestern, a three-run shot and a grand slam. It was the first grand slam by a Gamecock since LT Tolbert in the 2018 Fayetteville Super Regional against Arkansas. Clarke now has four home runs and 13 RBI on the year in the seven contests.
 
Noah Campbell had seven RBI on the week, which included a three-run shot in Sunday’s game against Northwestern. Campbell is second on the team with a .348 batting average to go along with eight RBI.
 
The Gamecock starting pitcher continues to impress. In 40.2 innings, the starters have struck out 47 batters and allowed just 11 runs for a 2.43 ERA. Brannon Jordan has 18 strikeouts in 11 innings, while Brett Kerry has 15 to move to 2-0 on the season.
 
George Callil has recorded six hit-by-pitches in the seven Gamecock contests. Callil also is hitting .333 with seven RBI on the year.
 
The Gamecocks are 18-for-23 on the season in stolen base attempts, led by Noah Campbell’s eighth thefts.
 
Carmen Mlodzinski has gone seven innings in each of his first two outings. Against Northwestern on Friday night, Mlodzinski struck out six and allowed just three hits in a no-decision.

South Carolina hosts North Florida on Tuesday afternoon before playing in the annual in-state series against Clemson. Action begins on Friday at 7 p.m. at Founders Park.
