Gamecocks Land Three Singles and Two Doubles Rankings
COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina men’s tennis landed three entries on the Oracle ITA Division I Men’s Singles Rankings and two teams on the Doubles Rankings, the organization announced today. Sophomore Daniel Rodrigues led the way with a No. 32 ranking in singles and pairing with returning freshman Connor Thomson for the No. 44 spot in doubles.
Rodrigues finished the shortened 2019-20 season ranked No. 46 in singles behind an 18-8 record that included four wins over ranked opponents. In three round-robin tournaments this fall, he was outstanding with a 6-2 mark that included several wins over opponents who finished last season in the top 30.
Sophomore Raphael Lambling will open the season ranked No. 81 in singles after going 2-6 this fall playing at the top of the Gamecocks’ lineup. He is 53-27 in his career, including a 24-9 record last season that earned him a final ranking of No. 45.
Ranked No. 118 to start this spring, Thomson dominated his first season in the Garnet and Black with a 24-7 slate in 2019-20 that yielded a No. 115 ranking when the season ended abruptly. He was right back at work this fall with a 5-4 mark while playing in the top half of the order.
In doubles action, the Gamecocks formed to new partnerships this fall and both played their way into the national rankings. Rodrigues/Thomson went 6-3 in the fall to land at No. 44. Lambling and returning freshman Phillip Jordan earned a No. 59 ranking behind an 8-1 record this fall.
The Gamecocks open their spring season this weekend at Georgia Tech’s annual MLK Invitational Tournament with play running Saturday through Monday.
