No. 2 South Carolina Opens Spring at Moon Golf Invitational

COLUMBIA, S.C.  –  The No. 2 University of South Carolina women’s golf team begins its spring slate with a trip to the Duran Golf Club in Melbourne, Fla. for the Moon Golf Invitational, hosted by the University of Louisville from Feb. 14-16. 

The Tournament

The field consists of 18 teams, including host school Louisville, Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Augusta, University of Central Florida, Coastal Carolina University, Florida, Florida Gulf Coast University, Florida State, Illinois, LSU, Miami, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas A&M and Virginia.

The Course

Duran Golf Club clocks in at 6,383 yards and plays as a par 72. The course opened in 2005 and has hosted the Moon Golf Invitational since 2018.

Pauline Roussin-Bouchard (So.)

  • Earned her second collegiate win at The Ally in October
  • Currently ranked No. 4 in the women’s World Amateur Golf Ranking
  • Has six top-10 finishes so far as a Gamecock
  • Made the fall ANNIKA Award Watch List
  • Earned WGCA and Golfweek First Team All-America honors as a freshman
  • Set to compete at the 2021 Augusta National Women’s Amateur

Pimnipa Panthong (Sr.)

  • inished third at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational to open the season
  • Currently ranked No. 77 in the women’s World Amateur Golf Ranking
  • Three-time All-American and Two-time MAC Player of the Year at Kent State
  • Set to compete at the 2021 Augusta National Women’s Amateur

Ana Pelaez (Sr.)

  • Making her season debut after travel issues kept her in Europe for the fall
  • Notched three top-3 finishes in European competition before returning to Columbia
  • Currently ranked No. 25 in the women’s World Amateur Golf Ranking
  • Earned All-America honors in 2020 and 2017
  • Set to compete at the 2021 Augusta National Women’s Amateur

Lois Kaye Go (Sr.)

  • Holds the second the lowest career scoring average in program history (72.69)
  • Earned All-America honors each of the last three seasons
  • Tied for ninth in program history with six top-5 finishes

Mathilde Claisse (So.)

  • Won both of her match play matchups at the East Lake Cup
  • Played in every tournament for the Gamecocks as a freshman in 2019-20
  • Notched the fifth-lowest freshman scoring average in program history (73.88)

Last Time Out

The Gamecocks closed the fall at the East Lake Cup, falling to Ole Miss in the championship round. Carolina had a successful fall overall with a win at The Ally, a third place finish at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational and taking the runner up spot at the East Lake Cup. The Garnet and Black enter the spring ranked No. 2 in the Golfstat rankings.
