No. 2 Gamecocks Extend Lead at Moon Golf Invitational

MELBOURNE, Fla.  –  The South Carolina women’s golf team followed a strong opening round with a blistering second round at the Moon Golf Invitational, posting a 13-under 275 on Monday at the Duran Golf Club.

Today’s 275 is the lowest second round score in program history, and the third lowest round for any Carolina squad in team history.

“Our performance today was just great,” head coach Kalen Anderson said after the round. “We went out there and really stayed aggressive and didn’t back off. We attacked the par fives and gave ourselves a great opportunity at each one and took advantage of scoring opportunities. Another great performance from Pauline and it’s great to have Ana back in the lineup, both of them posting a 5-under. Really solid performances from Pim and Mathilde after tough rounds yesterday. We need to go out tomorrow and stay aggressive and have another good day.”

Sophomore Pauline Roussin-Bouchard followed her historic opening round with a 5-under 67, putting her at 14-under for the tournament, seven strokes ahead of second place. Roussin-Bouchard notched an eagle on the first hole of the round, and played steady throughout, sinking birdies on holes nine, 15 and 16. Her 67 is tied for the seventh lowest second round score in team history.

Senior Ana Pelaez matched her younger teammate today, posting a 5-under 67 to move into a tie for third place with a 6-under 138 for the tournament. Pelaez birdied her first three holes before finishing her front nine with birdies on holes seven and nine. She shot for par on the back nine to tie her lowest round as a Gamecock.

Sophomore Mathilde Claisse got back on track with a 2-under 70 on Monday, sinking five birdies along the way. Senior Pimnipa Panthong also got back under par on Monday, shooting a 1-under 71 with a trio of birdies. Both women are tied for 46th place. Senior Lois Kaye Go shot a 2-over 74 today, she’s tied for 26th heading into the final round.

The Gamecocks get the final round underway tomorrow at 8:45 a.m. ET. Live scoring can be found HERE.
