South Carolina Hosts SC State Ahead of SEC Championships

COLUMBIA, S.C. – No. 13 South Carolina men’s tennis (12-8) will host SC State (5-2) on Thu., April 15, at noon at the Carolina Tennis Center. The Gamecocks added this final tune-up ahead of next week’s SEC Championships.
 
Gamecock Notables

  • The Gamecocks remained at No. 13 in the Oracle/ITA Rankings this week.
  • A few Gamecocks moved up in the individual rankings this week. Connor Thomson rose to No. 25, the highest ranking of his collegiate career. Raphael Lambling also moved up to No. 59, and doubles team Daniel Rodrigues and Thomson received its highest ranking this season at No. 20. 
  • South Carolina is 5-3 at the Carolina Tennis Center, with a 1-1 record in non-conference play at home.
  • With a 63-42 record in singles, the Gamecocks have earned 28 of those wins in the Nos. 1 and 4 spots.
  • Out of the 63 singles wins, South Carolina has won 48 of those in straight sets.
  • No. 2 Rodrigues and No. 93 Toby Samuel lead the Gamecocks in overall singles play with matching 22-6 records.
  • The Gamecocks’ primary three doubles teams have a combined 50-30 record this season and a 27-19 record in dual matches.

 
The South Carolina State Series

  • South Carolina is 8-0 against SC State, winning seven of those at home.
  • The Gamecocks have swept the Bulldogs six times.
  • South Carolina last hosted SC State on Feb. 2, 2019, winning 7-0.
  • Under head coach Josh Goffi, the Gamecocks are 6-0 against the Bulldogs.

 
Scouting the Bulldogs

  • SC State is 5-2 this season, with losses to Georgia Southern and Coastal Carolina on the road.
  • The Gamecocks will be the first ranked team that the Bulldogs face this season.
  • SC State boasts six returners and three freshmen and are led by head coach Hardeep Judge.
