Gamecocks Open Season Ranked 17th in United Soccer Coaches Poll

Season Opener Set for August 12

The University of South Carolina women’s soccer team is ranked 17th in the NCAA DI women’s national preseason United Soccer Coaches poll, which was released today.

The Gamecocks, under the direction of Shelley Smith, are coming off an 11-5 COVID-affected campaign that covered both the fall of 2020 and the spring of 2021. Carolina finished last season ranked 22nd in the United Soccer Coaches poll after reaching the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

The Gamecocks are one of five SEC schools ranked among the nation’s top-25, according to the United Soccer Coaches.

Carolina kicks off its 2021 season with an exhibition match at Wake Forest on Thursday, August 12.
