South Carolina Set for 49er Invite
COLUMBIA, S.C. – Four Gamecocks are set to compete at Charlotte this weekend for the 49er Invite. Kendall Couch, Lindsay Tulenko, Elise Mills and Misa Malkin will participate in singles and doubles contests over the weekend.
Each day of the tournament will feature doubles and singles play. The four-member South Carolina squad will be paired with Long Island University throughout the weekend and will not play matches against them. Out of the ten teams competing in the tournament, South Carolina can face opponents from Virginia Tech, Eastern Tennessee State, Liberty and Rutgers.
Gamecock Notables
- Sophomore Lindsay Tulenko is 3-3 in singles this fall after winning two matches in the Wolverine Invitational in straight sets.
- Tulenko and Elise Mills are undefeated in doubles with a 3-0 performance in Michigan, where they notably upset the No. 37 doubles team.
- Mills has a fall singles record of 4-3 and is on a one-match win streak.
- Freshman Misa Malkin also carries a 4-3 singles record after going 2-1 at the Wolverine Invitational. Her only loss in the tournament was to the No. 122 player.
- Malkin has one ranked doubles win under her belt after she defeated the No. 28 team alongside Ana Cruz.
- The 49er Invite will be sophomore Kendall Couch’s second tournament this fall. Couch went 1-2 in singles at the Debbie Southern Furman Fall Classic and her win contributed to South Carolina’s undefeated final day of the tournament.
