Verzyl Brings Home Bronze

Tucson, Ariz. – Gamecock diver Sophie Verzyl won a bronze medal in the one-meter springboard at the Junior Pan American Championships in Tucson, Ariz., yesterday. She scored a 369.70 to secure her spot on the podium.
 
The Columbia, S.C., native competed against six other athletes from the U.S., Mexico, Canada, and Peru. This was her first international competition for Team USA.
 
Verzyl has trained under South Carolina diving alum and South African Olympian Julia Vincent. She was one of four women in the A-group and one of 30 athletes who were selected to Team USA.
 
Competition at the Pan American Championships will continue through October 10 and can be livestreamed at TeamUSA.org
