Gamecocks Gain Experience in 49er Invite
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Four members of the South Carolina squad competed in the 49er Invite over the weekend in singles and doubles contests. Newcomers Chloe Narboni and Misa Malkin in addition to sophomores Lindsay Tulenkoand Kendall Couch competed in the tournament.
Gamecock Notables
- In doubles, Chloe Narboni and Misa Malkin defeated their opponents from Virginia Tech 6-3. The pair also blanked their Columbia opponents 6-0.
- Kendall Couch and Lindsay Tulenko posted a 6-2 commanding win over their Rutgers foes.
- In singles, freshman Narboni took down Alejandra Morales of Eastern Tennessee State in straight sets 7-6 (5), 7-5. Narboni also defeated Rutgers’ Daria Cardenas 6-3, 6-2 for her second singles win on the weekend.
- Narboni forced her match against No. 120 Esther Lovato of Liberty to a third set but Lovato came out on top in the third set super tiebreak.
- Newcomer Malkin played a tough match against Maria Juliana Parra Romero of Liberty that went to a third set super tiebreak. Malkin ultimately won in a 6-2, 6-7 (4), 1-0 (5) decision.
- Malkin also defeated Rutgers’ Tess Fisher in straight sets 6-3, 6-4.
- Tulenko notably sent her match against Liberty’s Willa Rogers to a third set super tiebreak after winning the second set 6-4.
