No. 8 Gamecocks Fall to LSU in Stephens Cup Title Match
Tigers won 4-1 in tight match that came down to the wire at The Alotian Club
ROLAND, Ark. — No. 8 South Carolina fell 4-1 to LSU in the championship match of the inaugural, 2021 Jackson T. Stephens Cup on Wednesday evening. The Gamecocks advanced to the title bout on Tuesday, finishing second in stroke play at The Alotian Club after a dramatic back nine comeback.
The Tigers put the first two points on the board today with 3&2 and 3&1 wins. South Carolina led in two of the final three bouts and freshman Hannah Darling had battled back to just 1-down on the back nine.
Freshman Louise Rydqvist led for most of her match and was 1-up before a short par putt miss at hole 16 tied things with LSU’s Latanna Stone, who would go on to win the next two holes and put the decisive third point on the board for the Tigers.
The Gamecocks will be back in action for the fall finale in two weeks at the Landfall Tradition (Oct. 29-31) in Wilmington, N.C.
