Gamecocks Advance to Rounds of 16
Cary, N.C. – South Carolina men’s tennis advanced three singles entries and one doubles pair to the main draw rounds of 16 at the ITA Carolina Regional.
Jake Beasley, Connor Thomson, and Toby Samuel each earned their third singles wins of the tournament to move into to the round of 16. Beasley and Samuel both beat their opponents in straight sets, while Thomson had to earn his win from behind after dropping his opening set to NC State’s Braden Shick.
In doubles, Thomson and Samuel moved on by claiming a 6-1, 6-0 win over NC Central’s Sebastian Pino and Shaka Christellotti in the second round after a first-round bye.
Beasley paired up with Raphael Lambling to secure a straight-set win over Carlos Berna Ruiz and Neil O’Connor of NC Central. The duo didn’t have as much fortune in the next round, falling to NC State duo Fons Van Sambeek and Martins Rocents.
