Patrick Named SEC Freshman of the Week
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – University of South Carolina women’s soccer forward Payton Patrick has been named the SEC Freshman of the Week as announced by the conference Monday, October 25.
She is the first Carolina freshman to earn the honor since Catherine Barry on March 22 of this past spring.
The Parkton, Maryland native earns the honor after scoring in the 78th minute to cap off a 4-0 win for the Gamecocks over Alabama on Sunday (Oct. 24). She scored on her first shot of the match, five minutes after entering the game as a sub. Patrick beat her defender to the far post off a crossing pass from fellow freshman Taylor Jacobson just inside the 6-yard box.
For the season, Patrick has played in all 16 matches for the Gamecocks, scoring two goals and adding an assist.
South Carolina closes out the regular season when they travel to Florida for a 6:30 p.m. match on Thursday, October 28.
