Laitarovsky Named SEC Freshman of the Week

Columbia, S.C. – South Carolina’s Michael Laitarovsky has been named SEC Swimming Freshman of the Week for week four of the season.
 
Laitarovsky of Natayna, Isreal, joined the Gamecocks in August and has already proven himself to be an asset in backstroke events.
 
In Carolina’s most recent meet versus Queens, Laitarovsky picked up first place in the 100 backstroke with a time of 50.61. He also swam the leadoff of the first-place 400 medley relay team with a split time of 48.27.
 
Across the Gamecocks’ three meets of the season, Laitarovsky has picked up two first-place wins indivudally in the 100 backstroke and two relay wins as the leadoff swimmer in the 200 and 400 medley relays. On the road, he has achieved runner-up in the 100 backstroke and as the leadoff of the 200 medley relay.
 
Laitarovsky competed in the 2020 Olympics for Team Israel and has represented his home country in the 2020 European Championships and the 2019 World Championships.
 
Laitarovsky and the Gamecocks will compete next at the Tennessee Invitational Nov. 18-20 in Knoxville, Tenn.
