
Lane, Hammerschmidt Earn SEC Rider of the Month Honors
COLUMBIA, S.C. – Sophomore Emma Lane and senior Trinity Hammerschmidt have been named SEC Riders of the Month for October the conference announced Wednesday. Hammerschmidt took the honor on the flat while Lane was named Co-Rider of the Month for her performance in reining.
“I’m so happy that Trinity and Emma are being recognized for their great efforts in the month of October by the SEC,” said head coach Boo Major. “Both of these student athletes ride with confidence and skill and are great leaders on our team. I appreciate all the efforts being done by the SEC office to recognize our talented equestrian student athletes.”
Lane went 3-0-1 in October to earn the most points for South Carolina in reining that month. Two of her wins came against then-No. 5 Texas A&M and then-No. 1 Auburn with scores of 73.5 and 68, respectively. Lane’s performance against the Aggies was her highest score of the month and earned her M.O.P. honors for the first time this season.
The SEC honor is Hammerschmidt’s second recognition for October, as she also earned the NCEA Rider of the Month title for flat. In October, she went 4-0-0 with a high score of 85 and earned two M.O.P.’s in the process. She notably scored a point for the Gamecocks in the meets against then-No. 5 Texas A&M and then-No. 1 Auburn.
South Carolina will compete at No. 5 Georgia on Saturday to wrap up its fall season. The Gamecocks and the Bulldogs will go head-to-head at 2 p.m. at the UGA Equestrian Complex.
